How I realized my biggest print

In July 2022 one of my works made with pen plotter was selected for Neologia visual art contest. The work in question is ‘HoursDayMonthSeason’ previously printed in A4 and published on the @octopusgarden page.

At that point, the real challenge was to produce the same print in 70x100cm and 50x70cm format to be presented at the fair, since I have always printed with my A4 pen plotter on unique sheet.
After several consultations with colleagues and friends and several printing tests on the same sheet
(terribly concluded, as you can see).

Single sheet test

I resigned myself and decided to create a collage of different A4 sheets, despite being scared by the possible final result, by the delicacy and precision that it required such work and the limited space available.

First I made the preview with Illustrator

and splitted the .svg file in different files ready to print

Once the final files of the various areas of the sheet were produced, I began to calculate the number of pens and sheets necessary for the tests and for the final realization.
Initially I had difficulty with the paper not absorbing the ink correctly creating uneven and inaccurate lines.

Recycling some pen

With much (so much) patience I managed to finalize all the sheets but I had absolutely no idea how to compose them.
I thought of the spray glue

Removable spray adhesive

which would allow me to apply all the sheets on the large sheet in a precise and comfortable way.

Final result of the 70×100 before cutting and frame it

Incredibly, the final composition satisfied me and I proceeded to frame it with the largest frames I have ever bought.

(thanks Sara for lending me the car to go to Ikea).

You can find it exhibited on 17-18 September at the Neologia visual art fair in Turin, Docks Dora. Then, will be exposed in Cavallerizza Reale in Turin, from 23 September to 01 October 2022.

🤔 Did you know?
‘HoursDayMonthSeason’ is a track by Nathan Fake and reworked by Olga Wojciechowska that really inspired me and made me conceive the central theme of this work: time.
